Hi, everyone.
I've lurked for a long time and learned a ton from the forums, and I got on here and saw the 'lurkers come forth' topic and suddenly all the guilt and cowardly feelings I had been repressing surged to the surface, leaving me scrambling for the new topic button.
I'm Emma, and I'm from the San Francisco bay area, and I've never been out of the country in my 22 years (all this will change on Sunday, when I fly out for a week). This trip is for work and so really structured, but I'm planning a trip for September next year, hopefully two weeks, and thinking UK/France right now. I'd love to go longer but my job is awesome and I like doing it, and also my girlfriend goes back to school at the end of September.
We want to backpack and hostel it, and am really interested in the more backwater towns, with weird and unique stuff to discover in them. I grew up in a town of 800 people, so dinky towns have a special place in my heart.
I do art and write and make shit up, professionally, and ... yeah, I'm looking forward to traveling when I can, keeping a travel sketchbook, whatever.

Hey Emma, welcome to the boards
You know, it just so happens that I'm moving over to the San Fran Bay Area at the start of next year.
...I sense some sort of Bay Area meet up happening early in the new year

Welcome to Tpunk. Continue to pick our brains and find the perfect trip for next year. And do tell us where you are heading to on Sunday.

Hello and welcome! I promise you do get so much more out of posting and getting to know people than just lurking - well done! And enjoy your trip next week. Be sure to write us about it.

Thanks, everyone! I guess this is a super-delayed 'thank you', but things got busy once I got back. It was amazing, seeing actual castles and driving all over the country... hiking, falling in water (I'm really good at that), being freezing, sleeping on the bus... now I want more!
My next trip isn't quite so spectacular, but I'm planning a roadtrip from the bay area up to Olympic Nat'l Park and Vancouver when my gf gets her spring break. I'm totally geeking out over the seastacks. Want to go up and draw them.
Anyway... thanks you guys! An east bay meetup would be awesome, even if I'm a total noob.
