Hey everyone, most of you guys know that i'm the kid that is going to the Netherlands for my Junior year in high school and will be leaving in August. Today I got a call from AFS saying that I got my host family today and that they sent me an attachment on an e-mail to me with general information about them, and that the packet full of information should be coming with in a few weeks. I'm really fricken excited. I will be in the town of Surhuisterveen, it's in the Friesland provice which i'm excited about b/c that's where I wanted to be placed, so hopefully now i'll be able to learn two languages while i'm over there and not just one. My host dad is 52 and is a bookkeeper, my host mom is 49 and is a nurse/administrator, and I have a host sister that will be turning 15 in June. They have 1 dog, 4 cats, mice, a hamster, and a rabbit. But I thought that I would just update all of you guys. And my pre-departure orientation is on May 21st in St. Louis, which kinda sux b/c it's like a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive b/c I live on the opposite side of the state, but oh well.

Hey congrats Berwin! I bet this makes it seem a little more real and tangible now. That's nice that they paired you with a family that has a high school aged daughter as well. So, how long is the pre departure? When do you take off for good?

My pre-depature orientation is from 10am to 4pm, lol, thanks for the advice agriadam ;)

Do you get credit at your high school back in the states for the time that you spend over there?

Like agriadam said it is probably best to avoid doing anything with the host sister, now the host sister's friends on the other hand....

Hey Kaffeine I live about 2 hours north west from Springfield, I'll be goin to St. Louis on May 21st for my pre-departure orientation.

ch3cooh yes I do get some credits for classes that I will take over there. I will get a P.E. credit, a foreign language credit if I take one while i'm over there, I can get a computer credit, and I can get math/science/social studies credits. As long as the class that I take over there is about the same stuff as my school here in the states offers then my school will let me transfer credits. So i'll probably get a p.e./math/computer/science/social studies credits/foreign language (hopefully)
