Hey from Australia :)
Hello! My name is Elisabeth and I live in Queensland, Australia. I joined this site because I'm planning my first trip overseas with my family next year. We're going to France and Italy for 2 months. I have family in Italy, so I'll be staying with them. But I need lots of advice!
I can't wait to meet everyone

Welcome Elizabeth! I have never been to Italy except Sardinia but, while I am no expert on France I have around that place and would be happy to reccomend some sights to see-are you going anywhere specgic in France or are you just looking for cool stuff there?

Thank you! Well the plan is to spend 1 week in Paris and then drive down through France until we get to Milan. On the way we hope to stop at towns and experience the country. I would love your recommendations!

Welcome! Good to see another Aussie on the boards!
I can't be of much use for France, but I've done a bit of touring around Italy. Off the top of my head, some of the cool things Italy has to offer include:
- Rome - Forum, Colosseum
- Vatican City
- Pisa
- Pompeii
- Cinque Terre
If you browse the boards I'm sure you'll find plenty of info.
Enjoy!

If you are driving down to Milan, I might reccomend the Jura region of France on the French/Swiss border-very nice if you like mountains.

Looks like a beautiful drive you have ahead of you.
To keep you motivated with background scenery of some of those cities/countries that you'll be passing through, here are some movies that you could rent (off the top of my head)-
The Davinci Code (Hanks)
Bourne Identity/Ultimatum (1,2, &3 I believe).
The Italian Job (remake with Mark Wahlberg)
Just Married (Ashton Kutcher & Britney Murphy)
Before Sunrise (Hawke & Delpy)
Before Sunset (Hawke & Delpy-10yrs later)
The Sound of Music (a different route, but beautiful scenery nonetheless)
Il Postino (The Postman)
Cinema Paradiso
And many others... but I'm drawing a blank right now
Welcome to TPunk !

Thanks! That's a great list of movies haha
Also, would anyone know how I would go around getting my Italian citizenship and the requirements? I've tried looking online but it's so confusing. Surely there's an Italian on this forum with knowledge!

I've no idea but I found some links that could be helpful-
Consulate of Italy in Brisbane Italian consulat in Brisbane
Italian Citizenship & Genealogy Services for Jure Sanguinis - Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates from Italy
A website which may be able to answer your questions
You may find this passage of interest
" Q. I've read on other websites that Italian citizenship jure sanguinis is only available through grandparents. Your website says that there is no generational limit. Which is correct?
A. The reason this website was created is that so much information available on the Internet is incomplete and/or confusing. Even Italian consulate websites can lead people to believe that citizenship through ancestry is only possible through parents or grandparents. ICGS can state with absolute certainty that Italian citizenship jure sanguinis is possible through great grandparents, since its founder became an Italian citizen through his mother -> grandmother -> great grandfather. The fact that there is NO generational limit for citizenship through ancestry has been confirmed by various Italian consulates."
And if you do qualify
Italian Citizenship & Genealogy Services for Jure Sanguinis - Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates from Italy
how to apply.
I hope this helps.

The best hostel I found in Rome was the yellow hostel and since I was there they have expanded the size of the common areas and added a bar. The people who worked their were extremely helpful from when I got pick pocketed on the roman subway and faxed the police report without charging me to calling a sightseeing comapany when they were late to pick me up. Also a 5 minute walk from the main train station and a great pizza place 1 block over that sells it by the weight.

What a coincidence! I was just thinking about the Yellow! Glad to hear they expanded their common area. Agreed, overall its a great value for money, and that pizza place was my savior.
