Hi
hi all,
I'm a long term travel fan used to expat/travel lifestyle -
just about to leave for another trip, destination unknown at the moment.
I'm hoping to leave next week from the Uk, possible destinations are
fly into mexico, head south towards panama (downside is the cost of flights),
fly to india and travel around north and south (have been there four times previously but haven't travelled extensively),
fly to bangkok and travel that region (I don't know much about the visa side of things)
I'm looking to go for 4/5 months so any pearls of wisdom you lovely people can impart will be gratefully accepted

Welcome to the boards!
The flight to Mexico/C.A. may be expensive, but traveling here is fucking cheap!!! C.R. being the most expensive... Ive been living in Nica for 5 months now, and I meet TONS of backpackers on long term 6-12 month trips through C.A.... Its a fun part of the world and worth the time!!! Feel free to hit me with any questions....

my biggest issue with doing the CA trip is the fligth cost, it looks as though i'll be paying circa 550 pounds to get a return to the area (cancun appears to be the cheapest).
Can you direct me towards the cheap places to enter and leave CA (i'll be flying there from the UK) - an onward flight to vancouver would be good but i have a feeling it will be quite expensive
are there any particular places that you'd recommend?

Hello and Welcome!!
Central America covers a large area. What areas are you going to focus on? I am assuming you will be flying out of gatwick or heathrow.

for CA I was going to get a charter from birmingham to cancun (and ditch the return ticket) then travel down through mexico, nicaragua, guatemala
) and any other places i feel like passing through, ending up somewhere around pananma)
I hadn't thought as far as the return leg of the flight, i was hoping to be able to get a cheap ticket from panama to cancun and another cheap ticket back to the uk from there.
I don't really have a plan other than to get there and head south for five months. I've just come back from 3 momths in colombia and peru so wouldn't be desperate to go bacj there right away.
Are there any other cheaper places i could fly from/to?
