A Reintroduction
So I'm not really a new member, but I haven't been on this forum in a few years, so I would like to reintroduce myself (now that I have accomplished much of the traveling I wanted to do when I first joined this site!)
I'm American, from Chicago, currently living in Münster, Germany but still hold a flat in Newcastle, England, which I will be returning to in September. I'm an archaeologist at times, and am now dabbling in TEFL while in Germany. Can't plan my next big trip until I'm back in England, but hopefully Travelpunk will be just as useful as it was when I first found it! And now I hope I can help out everyone else a bit more
happy travels to all the uni students doing their big summer trips! they were definitely the highlight of my college years! (that makes me sound so old! I promise I'm only 24!)
cheers!

Recently I was working as an environmental archaeologist, so spending a lot of time at a tank of water sifting through buckets of dirt, then looking for seeds, grain. But I got my M.A. in European Historical Arch in England, so I really dig (hehe) Roman and Post Medieval stuff. But I got my B.A. in Anthro and really prefer using my anthropology theory background, but it's not as popular in Europe unfortunately
What are your plans for your degree?
Also, thanks peeps for the welcome back!

Astro - I was looking into the Ba and Bsc Degree Programmes in Archaeology offered at Birkbeck University in England.
Any suggestions as to which Universities would be the best to pursue a course of study in Archaeology in England?

Sorry I didnt see this earlier, but here's my two cents. I went to Sheffield Uni and it had a really big program with loads courses. The professors I had were mostly really nice and they have lots of different opportunities for excavations. I also looked at UCL, which has an even bigger program and is in london (obviously). And I know Durham has a great program as well. I think for you Bachelors, definitely look at the types of courses and excavations they have on offer. I ended up choosing Sheffield after I visited both schools and talked with both, thinking that the staff were more attentive at the time I ws applying and because it's cheaper outside of London. At the same time, I ended up being not so happy with my degree program. So just talk with the professors and see what they have to say. I still think UCL has the better facilities and it is in London, so it's not so much of a university setting as Sheffield.
Birbeck I havent heard so much about, but it looks like it's geared to more part time study and continuing education. So I think it depends on what you want to study/etc. If you have more questions let me know
