Ok I'm leaving for mexico asap, where do i go!
I have just broken up with my girlfriend and thrown this trip together in the last couple of days. I bought a ticket to mexico city and plan to just go ever where the wind takes me for 2 weeks, while trying to make my way back to el paso texas in the end. I have no idea what to do or where to go. I bought a recomended backpack and plan to stay in hostels the whole time. I am trying to do this for as cheap as possible, but i am fexible if there is something fun to do. really just want to see the country meet fellow backpackers and drink. My questions is what should i make sure and see or what is cool that i can't miss, where should I go? any tips on any bad spots to watch out for? What not to do? Any other tips of things i need to bring or don't need to bring? I thought about bringing a sleeping bag for the hostels do i need too? help me please, oh and everyone is telling me that i am going to get robbed and stuff, is that true. I have read some that says it is and some that says it isn't. Is there usually hostels in small towns? please post thanks tommy.

Sorry dude, can't tell ya anything about Mexico, but plenty of people here will fill you in. But you're about to have a badass trip. Just don't sweat anything, get a guidebook so that you get a rough idea of what to do (but don't use it too seriously), and you'll be fine.
Still in the Army or out? There's a bunch of us on here now. |
I've only been in the Mexico City area. If you are at all interested in history you MUST see Teotihuacan. It's a short (45 minute) bus ride out of Mexico City. There are a lot of great sites around the area and the bus system is easy & cheap! We didn't stay in hostels so I can't help you there.
A lot of folks on here have been around Mexico more than I so I'm sure they'll chime in soon with some great info. Definitely get a guide book. Different people like different things & that's a good way to pick what sounds good to you. Have a great time! |
thanks guys, I am planning on getting a guidebook just going wherever. I'm really up for anything. I really just hope to meet some peoplw and just tag along for a bit. oh yeah, I just got out of the army in sep. 07, 101st abn., tommy

Guanajuato. Haven't been but my boyfriend spent a year there and it sounds incredible. Colorful city, fabulous food, and full of students, young people, and life. :)
