help!!
it won´t let open a new threrad under the asap section.... but i need help pronto!
My friend and i are wanting to head from valencia to paris on the 30th of august and thought we would use an overnight train since we both have railpasses but the resercation fees are up in the hundreds of euros! Any suggestions on how to do this more cheaply wouyld be much appreciated! |
Unfortunately for all trains in Spain (not just night/highspeed trains) a reservation must be made.
The reason why the reservation is so expensive is because your rail pass doesn't cover the premium trains (Trenhotel) that take you out of Spain. The price on Alsa's buses (oneway) 121 euros. My guess is that isn't too comforting. I would try to go from Valencia to Madrid to Irun to Paris. The trains are older and you are going out of your way, but you do have a rail pass so there isn't much financial downside but you may end up spending 16-20 hours getting to Paris. In general I found that the renfe employees were helpful in getting me around inexpensively so you may want to check with them. Buena suerte, --Joey |
were you going from valencia to barcelona to paris?
im pretty sure when i went, i went from barca to nice, and then nice to paris...so while that is a lot of stops and such...it should save you...the most expensive train i had on that trip was a sleeper from paris back to barcelona and it was 21 euros. try going to nice first if you can i guess... |
thanx for the suggestions guys, have actually managed to get a much much cheaper trip by justr going in and resrving at the train sation! only gonna cost around 27 euro each!
|
*whew* Glad you got a cheap ticket!
I've learned in Europe to never trust the web prices for trains. While for airlines that's the way to get the lowest rates, I've found that it's SO much cheaper to just roll up to the train station and buy a ticket. After getting burned for a couple hundred dollars in the past, now I know better :) (Notable exception: Eurostar) |
Omi, I completely agree, always make the reservation at the station if you can, unless its like a life-or-death (well okay miss-my-next-flight) situation and during the most crowded season, just wait to book once you're there.

new prob: all the trains to valencia are booked out because of la tomatina and i really gotta get there!!!

Are there busses going there ? You should also ask your hostel staff to help you out with this. They should know all the options to get around the country!
I moved your thread into the ASAP forum. It now works (the problem was certainly due to last week boards maintenance). |
weve given in and paid bout 75 euro each for flights cos it´ll be so much quicker and a bus was 50 euro anyhow
