London: How to escape
Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of how I can get out of England cheap and start using my Eurail pass. I looked at eurostar.com but the prices were rediculous >150 pounds I was thinking about heading to Belgium but I'm open to any suggestions. I'm stressing out because London is costing me too and I need to get out soon. Cheers guys |
The eurostar is ridiculous. You could fly with easyjet or ryanair (they still have some amazingly cheap fares, even for the next few days), or go by coach, check out nationalexpress.co.uk (who also go to europe by ferry).
|
try national express coaches as they go to Europe-its about £35 to Amsterdam and its 12hrs so at least you can sleep. http://www.nationalexpress.com/eurolines/home/hp.cfm
EDIT-Ah see ajb3000 beat me to this post |
Adam nailed it. Coach or flights. There is an airport in Charlaroi or something like that which is just outside of Brussels if you were heading down Belgium way. While no place is as expensive as London (even Tokyo!) Belgium ain't cheap. If you want to give your wallet a break, take the next flight to Spain (preferably in Andalucia) and you can start enjoying 16 euro hostels instead of 40-50 Euro hostels.

fly ryanair from stansted to oporto, portugal!
or easyjet to amsterdam....portugal will give ur wallet a break tho! and its GORGEOUS!!! |
Im probably going to book this in the next couple of days

I ended up catching a 20 quid overnight bus to Amsterdam. Now I just need to decide where to go next...
|
if you're looking to give your wallet a break, I would suggest either heading to Spain or heading to east Europe.
|
other options are to use a coach to travel to northern england then fly from there. its cheaper from non london airports. for cheap coaches check
www.megabus.com www.nationalexpress.com also theres loads of coaches in victoria that go to poland, dont think they have a website but if you go sniffing around victoria you might find a lead... |
Quick update: I've booked 4 nights in Berlin and will catch a train there tomorrow. After that I plan on going to Poland, not sure which city. Then exploring Eastern Europe a little before going back into Western Europe for a big tour leading upto my concert dates and Pamps tour in late June.
Sorry for the rambling but thats my very rough plan for now. Reccomendations welcome. |
Berlin is so awesome, I rant about it about the time. Do the free tour! In Poland head to Krakow for the nightlife and well the awesomeness in general. I am in Wroclaw now though and I like it more but there is not so much to do here. I don't know what in particular your tastes are so of course it is difficult to make recommendations.
I would definitly recomment Romania though, but it might be a bit far for you to get to. It is very cheap and scenic and friendly and full of very interesting travellers. Anyway, hope you are having a great time! |
Having an awesome time thanks
Krakow tomorrow night (The 5th) Come party with me Louse. I'll be there probably 4 nights I love Berlin and the free tour was pretty awesome. I had a wow moment today listening to Pink Floyds 'The Wall' while walking along the actual wall. |
The nightlife in Krakow is indeed pretty awesome, I'd say it's my third favourite clubbing spot on Eastern Europe after Odessa, Ukraine and Bucharest, Romania.

ooooooh tallinn is soooo pretty!!! i wish i could remember the place we stayed cause i would tell you to stay there. it's an eight bed hostel, and one of those eight beds is taken up by the one and only staff member. its just like staying at someones house, there's just a tiny bedroom, a living room with tv, coffee table and a few bunks, a kitchen and a huuuuge bathroom. and the girl who works there (simone) is soo nice. i can't remember the name (its a pretty generic name, like tallinn backpackers or something) but all i can offer is that this photo was taken directly in front of it, looking down the street.
http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/7...c02311sml5.jpg so if you happen to stumble upon this view, the door is to your immediate right. it's one of the outer streets of the old town. wow i just realised how passionate i am about making you stay at this hostel. too bad if you've already booked eh! |
Aliz, you are a crazy psychopath lol... nah that's great, cheers. I haven't booked anything yet, although The Hostel With No Name looks pretty good.
|
hey i found it.. it's called Old Town Backpackers and it's on the Tpunk hostel search thing. stay there!
