I'm planning a south pacific stopover on my way home from nz in aug/sept. hoping for around a 2 weeks stay. my options are fiji, french polynesia(tahiti), cook islands, samoa, or tonga. Anybody been? was leaning towards tahiti and taking in bora bora while i'm there, but sounds like the most expensive option. someone please shed some light on this.
I'd probably go with Taihiti. I haven't heard anything about Cook Islands, Samoa or Tonga being big travel destinations.
You may be able to get some good deals for Fiji at the moment as they have had political difficulties recently and are keen to get the tourists back.
Either way I'm sure they all have sunshine, sand and water so you can't go wrong.
Also don't forget that Australia is also an island in the Sth Pacific.

Don't worry, I won't forget OZ. Stopping there first, before NZ. My friends wouldn't forgive me if I got to that side of the world and didn't visit. I was gonna try to make it to oz for easter weekend cuz its my buddy's 21st, but I'm thinking I might rather stick around to see all the fam. plus I don't know if I'll get everything done here in time. So this way I can have an extra week or so and get to see all my family again before I leave for 5 months.
