if you're looking for a hostel where you can meet people there is only one place to go in Madrid & that's Cat's Hostel. They do however have many double/single bed hostels that you can stay in if you want more privacy. I stayed in one of those my first night, but I hated it because I didnt meet anyone. As for barcelona....I stayed in the HI hostel kind of out of the way but it was beautiful, not too full of people/crazy partiers & it was made out of like an old monestary or something. Really nice. Only thing is that when you come in past a certain time they only open the doors every half hour so you have to wait to get in. Kabul's a great party place...although I dont think you'll be getting much sleep there....
