Hey, I am going to Spain and Portugal in a week or so. I was wondering if you can sleep on the beach anywhere. Since I will only be in each town for a night or two I figure this could say me some money and stress of finding a hostel. If anyone has and ideas please post. thanks.

It is possible thought not always legal. I also suggest not to actual camp ON the beach, b/c of the tide and rodents and such come to get what washs up at night, beside the fact that it makes a mess of everything.
Find a nice hidden spot off the beach  |
Or you could go out all night and then sleep on the beach during the day...

I agree with tumblezweedz - Spain is the country to party, so put your pack in the train station locker and club the night away!

That was someting I was wondering. Are thre usually lockers at train or bus stations? Are there ones at hosetels? Do you need to bring your own lock. thanks.

Most train stations in Europe have lockers, so you should be OK in that respect. I third the suggestion of partying all night and sleeping on the beach during the day. (Happens sooo much in the party places like Ibiza and Barcelona.) Also, sleeping during the day drastically reduces your chance of being hit by the other big risk: getting rolled.

The only thing about that is there places to change and shower that are open to the public? Can't go out partying all sandy.

Ehh.. street speak for someone stealing all the stuff out of your pockets as you sleep.

often beaches have a shower, some public toilets have showers especialy in places like spain and italy where it is really hot.
|
I don't know specifics in Spain, but in some places there are showers in the train stations, too.
|
I'm not sure if this works (but I swear I either read it somewhere or someone told me), you can probably go to any hostel and pay them a few bucks ($5 or so) just to take a shower and freshen up. Just go from hostel to hostel until someone accepts.
Has anyone hear of this? |
a friend of mine that just got back said that you can shower in hostels for a small fee in italy (and probably other countries too).

Just like in the Borne Identity. When he stashed the money and passports in the locker in France, then got into a cool car chase and then somehow got the bag back.  |
I slept on the beach once and i had sand in my eyes for two days after. It wasn't fun. But I'm kind of stupid and accident prone.

I slept on the beach on new years in Byron Bay. It wasnt legal, but a few ppl i know got caught, and just asked 2 move on. We stashed our bags at the train station lockers, and just slept in our sleepin bags, then swam in the sea 2 get clean.
For hostels aswel, we just walked into them, showered, stored our stuff in the fridge, and left. It was only for 2 days, but no1 noticed or asked us anything. saves u $5 tho..... |
No not everywhere. I tried it this past weekend in San Sebastien because a lot of hostals and hotels were booked because of the Running of the bulls. We passed out and got woken up by cops. It is also a good way to get your stuff stolen. But that was just one beach. I´m sure you can if your in a secluded area.
