Hi

I've heard that bed bugs can be a problem staying in hostels.

Have others had experience if this?

what can be done to keep those pesky crittters at bay - I've heard that lavender oil is pretty good.

thanks
Naj

I had the worst case of bed bugs when I was in Costa Rica, so bad I could see em run if I pulled my bag back really quick. And they stayed with me the whole trip once I had them.... the only way I knew of getting rid of them was by freezing them out when I got back to canada... left my sleeping back outside for a week in -27 degree weather..... as for keeping them away during the trip my friends found rubbing oils on their legs before bed did work but sleeping wasn't very comfortable.

Dang. Well is that a problem in Europe too? Or just in exotic places like Costa Rica?

ok thanks.....got worried for a second there. Not that I wouldnt go if there WERE, just that I try to avoid creepy crawlies at all costs, and the thought of 2 months sleeping with bed bugs didnt sound too fun.

Ya I would like to add my 2 cents, bed bugs are around..I know first hand...of all the places I have been, I have only been attacked once, which in the large scope of things is not too bad

I had them in the States once. Annoying, but not deadly. I starting bringing a sleepsheet everywhere, and just pitched it with the first sign of the little critters. That usually helped a ton.

On another note, if you do any outdoors or beach camping on your trip, also remember to look out for sand fleas. I hate these gross little things even more than bed bugs! :greenguy:
