Hey everyone-
I stumbled across this article on couchsurfing.com online. Though you guys might be interested in reading about it. I believe quite a few tpunks have used the website and have have good results (I'm hoping?). If anyone wants to share their thought on couchsurfing i'd love to hear it. http://travel.msn.com/Guides/article.aspx?...72>1=8906 -Jeff |
I've used it a few times. I had a Canadian guy from couchsurfing stay with me for 1 night a few months back, and I stayed with a guy from hospitalityclub in Kosovo for 4 days. I tried at arrange a few more places to stay as well in Albania, Macedonia and Moldova, but got either a negative response or none at all from those, so it seems to be hit and miss in my experience. It also requires that you know your itinerary at least 4-5 days in advance and have regular internet access while on the road. I have also partaken in some unexpected couchsurfing (as in, I've met people who have offered me a place to stay), that's always fun.
When staying with people you get a very different view on things. You immediately have a group of local "friends" to show you around and take you to the non-tourist areas. Plus at times you get home cooked meals, people driving you places you can't easily get to by public transport, satellite tv and all the other home comforts. |
