Hey! I'm taking a 3 week trip in May and it's looking pricey to stay...partly since I"m looking to stay in the major places: London, Paris, Rome, Venice, and Munich.
Whats the feedback on:
(London) St Christopher's Village
(Paris) Square Caulaincourt, Absolute Paris
(Rome) Via Carlo Cattaneo or I've heard suggested on here : The Friendship Place, The Beehive Hostel, M&J place Hostel
(Venice).....I"m lost, I don't know anything about it and can't find a lot of suggestions....
(Munich) Easy Palace, Wombats City Hostel, or Pension frank
Any help would be great!!

In Venice they open up some University dorms during the summer and call it Hostel San Toma. Its in piazza San Toma, a great location, but May might be a little early though.

I've stayed at the Square Caulaincourt. It's a hostel AND hotel, and I stayed in one of the hotel rooms. It was old, but perfectly fine and the location is *great.* I don't know how the dorm rooms are but they didn't have a lot of vacancies when we were there.

I just so happen to still have the phone number if you want to call about the place I mentioned.
041 275 09 30
It was reasonably priced if I remember correctly

As for London- Picadilly hotel is in an awesome location, is clean, has friendly staff, basically everything you need. If you want to go cheaper- the London Hotel is over by Bayswater and is pretty good too. No room for socializing or anything, but the location is pretty good and the rooms are decent. (the basement looked scary tho, so avoid getting a room down there!!
If you're going to Venice...you have to stay at Camping Fusina, hands down. It was the best experience I have had so far in Europe. www.campingfusina.com. It's a short ferry ride from Venice (a beautiful ride too) , is very cheap, and has the best staff and bar you can find. www.fusinabar.com...check it out

Those are all great cities you have on your list!
London: Heard good things about St. Christophers, but I stayed at Generator which was much better than I expected (clean, not as loud as I had heard, decent breakfast)
Paris: Can't help you on that one...stayed at a shady budget hotel.
Rome: I stayed at M&J, but wouldn't recommend it (not very clean, cramped bathrooms, staff not too helpful in my opinion)
Venice: Antico Capon (spelling?) My friend found this one online, or at the train station. It was an apartment style place that was expensive (30 euros), but had an unbelievable location (Santa Margarita, where some of the nightlife is - it was quicker for me to use the bathroom in our place than in a bar! It was also close to San Marco, and about 10-15 minute walk from the train station)
Munich: I can't say enough good things about euro hostel! Decent rooms facilities, amazing location, and the staff was incredible!
P.S. I just finished writing this, and realized the post was started last November...hopefully it will help somebody out!

Paris: Absolute Paris. The biggest is 4 bed dorm with bathroom and TV ensuite. Nice location too.
Rome: Friendship place: clean, helpful staff, and awesome location (really close to termini train station)
Munich: 4 You Munchen. Cool people, clean rooms, great stuff, really close to train station as well.
That's all I got.
PS: all of these can be booked online.

Venice: D'Oro Camping ....11 euros a night, it's all good. Beware teh mosquitos.
Munich: Easy Palace... 16.90 euros.... nice and roomey. The rooms look like IKEA, seriously.
Rome: all i can tell you is that M&J is NOT worth the money. Descent hostel, though.

In Munich stay at Wombat hostel if you like to party. its one of the biggest hostels ive stayed at. huge bar, hundreds of cool backpackers ready to meet people and hang out for the night. All the other backpackers from other hostels come to Wombats bar to meet people.
Backapcker Hostel in Rome is another good party hostel. All the hostels in Rome are small compared to other cities.

In Rome, I would absolutely recommend the Beehive. It was the best place I've stayed ANYWHERE. The entire place only has maybe 4 or 5 rooms, and only one is a dorm room with 8 beds I think. Theres a great sitting room downstairs with free internet. Most people staying there were solo travellers, so it was a great chance to meet people. The location- 2 mins away from Termini makes it pretty easy to get anywhere you want to go, and its still possible to walk to almost anywhere in the city within an hour.
No question, the Beehive was outstanding.

square coulaincourt in paris was great, it's more like a mini hotel. they have a breakfast too. they gave us a discount cos we booked for a week, and then we ended up staying another one and a half anyway! staff are really friendly and helpful, free internet, and in a gorgeous little part of montmatre with a bakery next door.
