Hey, I m going to be in Amsterdam september 22-25 and I would like to stay in a hostel. I never had and need some help.

I am a little shy and have neve stayed in a hostel. I am looking for a hostel in Amsterdam for the weekend? Anyone can help? Not looking to party all night long but have a good time?

Also do the roomates party together? I am a solo traveller is it hard to hook up with people in a hostel to party with? I am a little shy at first will i still meet people? I don't want to party alone but i don't want to intrude.

Any advice where to stay? Tired of travelling alone and paying for hotel rooms want to take the plunge need help!!!

I have stayed at both and both hostels are excellent. Go for the cheapest one. I prefer the Pig since it has a nicer bar and pool table. You will have NO problem meeting people. If you introduce yourself to a few and be friendly you will most likely get invited to go out with a group.

I liked the Pig, but I thought there were too many Americans & Canadians. Not that there's anything wrong w/ yanks & canucks, but I don't exactly go to Europe to hang out w/ the same folks

In fact, they put 3 other San Francisco dudes in my room. WTF? At least they were cool to hang out with. And after a few beers and a trip to the coffeeshop, you don't really care much, do ya?

I can relate, Toddkaz.
All I can say is you probably want to avoid Hans Brinker or any other hostel that doesnt have good wideopen windows, or at least fans for the rooms cuz its hot as hell in there this time of year and the Hans Brinker staff didnt give a shit.

Hopefully you will have a better time going solo in Adam than I did. I was there for 2 days last week and I didnt really meet anyone, not for lack of trying. Everyone seemed to be into their own private cliques. Most of the americans seemed like dumb Bill&Ted-style fratboys & most of the locals and Europeans seemed like Fashion-Nazi elitists. All in all, Adam was the most miserable experience Ive had in Europe so far. I was glad to get the hell out of there before my self esteem plummeted any further.

So my advice to you is that if you´re both solo and shy, skip Amsterdam. DON`T do it! Not by yourself. Wait until you have a travelling partner/wingman and then go.

I've stayed in the pig twice now and wouldn't go again, the crowd was very young and trendy not so easy to talk to, I just felt very out of place there. Maybe it was because I was dribbling while I rested my head on the table.

Next time I go there I think it will ether be Bobs or dirty nellys.

I just booked today for a week at the end of August. I went with St. Christopher's. The ones in England seem to have a good repuatation, and the one in Amsterdam is pretty new. While there were only a couple of reviews for it, they were both enthusiastic. They also just opened a new bar this spring...the old bar was the only complaint I read about.

I almost went with the Bulldog, but it was more expensive, and I get the impression that it is a little too comericalized there. I probably would've gone with Bob's, but it didn't have availability for the week I'll be there.
