There are two Flying Pigs - the one downtown on Nieuwendijk and the uptown location by the Vondelpark. The uptown is nicer, the downtown is more central. Both are pretty much filled with Americans (like, 90% when I was there) so if you're looking for a bit more cultural exposure, they're not the place to stay. However, they do have a great party atmosphere, the rooms are pretty nice, and frankly I liked their breakfast of bread and hard-boiled eggs!

I don't know I've been in the downtown one twice and I'm not that gone on it. It has everything you could need, it's very trendy and well maintianed but the crowd don't seem as freindly and it's always packed. I just didn't feel like I fitted in their for some reason.
I seem to have a thing for old run down hostels though for some reason.
Dirty Nellys looks good it's an Irish pub hostel.
Bulldog looks good and it's also a coffieshop.

I'd stay there just because I've always heard so much about it. For a night perhaps. Then I'd go to some scummy falling down sketchy place because they're more interesting usually.

Probably because you ain't a Yank
Next time, I'll probably go with Durty Nelly's.
Bulldog's not on my list. As a place that has a hostel, a "coffeeshop" and a bar on the same block, they seem like too business oriented. Oddly enough, I believe they own a hostel on the Gold Coast in Australia, as well. All the staffers there wore Bulldog key lanyards. Weird.

Weird indeed, omid. I still rather like the idea of having a sort of tpunk chain of hostels. For tpunks, by tpunks. Very insular. Probably not economically feasible, but you can bet that should I ever open a hostel punks will stay very cheaply. And it will be a kind of old, weird, semi-run down place full of cool people, probably a bit off the beaten track. None of this slick trendiness stuff. heh.. sorry rambling and hi-jacking..
