Can anyone recommend a hotel or hostel in Milan. im looking for something pretty central or next to a metro (my friend wont do trams). Our budget is around £160 (for 2) for 3 nights

Any tips would be great

There's an Ibis Hotel in Milan, that's 75 euro a night (more during the feria). It's not in the dead centre of town, but I'm pretty sure it's close to transit links. We stayed there on our way down, but were driving, so that's why I'm not clear on metro links. www.accorhotels.com would find it. The breakfast was okay, but you can do much better for 7,50 euro, if you don't have to leave at 7:30!

Why won't your friend do trams? Are buses okay? Or is she willing to walk a ways to a metro station?

I stayed at the YHA affiliated hostel which was a small walk from the metro. It was a massive hostel with an instituition type feel. I didn't think much of it but the real benefit was that it was under 20euro a night.
