If u can get your hands on a Gold Visa / Mastercard and purchase your 90% of your plane tix - you get free travel insurance.

Not the most comprehensive cover I've seen but definitely got all the basis covered.

I had pretty comprehensive travel insurance through my work when I was travelling and my boss lady said it was going to cost about 60 bucks. Which wasn't bad because I wasn't working for about a month and a half. However she did turn around and say she'd pay for it, which was pretty cool.

Becareful and really look at the policy before you take it though! You don't want to get caugh somewhere and have the insurance company say no. (Even though it's always a big possibility)

Be smart about it too. A guy in Mexico felt from a balcony after having a few drinks and the insurance won't pay for him 'cause he had indulged in alchohol! Right, a dude in an all-inclusive resort where they give you beer instead of water....So just read everything and when in doubt ASK THEM!

I've changed my stance on insurance after I broke my ankle. A couple hundred dollar investment saving me five figures. I wasn't traveling per se though, but still.
