Okay, so I'm now in San Sebastian and will be flying to London from Bilbao on Friday (through UK immigration) and later that night will be flying to Australia via Singapore.
My problem: oh nothing major, just that on Friday I went to the doctor on Burgos to check out my alleged bed bugs/allergic reaction and I have been told I have chicken pox and I will have them for about 7 days.
I am shitting myself that I will not be able to fly or they will refuse me enter. Anybody know anything about any of these? I just want to go home. Never having had any childhood illnesses, this has knocked me around. It is difficult as I can't go out in the sun (have a fever to go with the pox).
This trip has lost its appear - now I just want to go home.
I have been trying to reach my 24hr emergency travel insurance number but can't get through.
Help!

Shit.
I just checked a website on Chicken Pox and it said you could have it for up to 3 weeks - I´ve only just got it.
Will definitely have to get on to my travel insurance now.
Thanks.
I could not feel any lower now if possible.

being ill and getting your plans messed up are not a great combination i hope everything goes well with your insurance company other option may be that you could check directly with your airline provider

Do you have a consulate or national rep somewhere nearby? They may be able to help you while you're stuck, and talking to someone from "home" can raise your spirits, too.
Hang in there and get well soon!

Yeah, chicken pox are highly contagious and can be lethal for any old people you come into contact with who'd never had it. And you could be EXTRA miserable on a flight - I could barely get out of bed when I had it.
Best to see what your travel insurance or consulate can do (as recommended by everyone else). The most important thing is to get a LOT of rest, a lot of liquids, and try to keep to yourself if you can - or if you do have others around, make sure they've had the pox before

I agree...I had them in my early teens and they were pretty bad. The older you are, the worse they are (is what I hear).
My advice is to pamper yourself with accomodations. Don't stay in a hostel or rinky-dink place...get to somewhere you feel comfortable. You're going to be miserable for awhile. Stay there till you're over them. Then save the bill and submit it to your travel insurance. Tell them it was recommended by the doctor for recovering from them.

gumby, sorry to hear your ill, thats no fun while traveling!!! have you ever had chicken pox before? if you had, i'd suggest seeing another doctor as there are many skin viruses, i.e. impetigo, or shingles. or anyways, i'd just want a second opinion, one doctor is not always correct, and there could be antibiotics to help, also if you do have the chicken pox and its early on there is a shot/vaccine for it (that will help to clear it up fast) well i guess depending where you are. but i would go and try, like mike said, to pamper yourself. check yourself into a nice pensione or something (with a bath), find some oatmeal (like aveeno oatmeal bath) and soak in it, that should help relieve any itching and stuff.
hope everything works out, sure it will!!

Hi everybody,
Thank you so much for your replies. Today I was given the all clear at the hospital to fly on Friday. Can't say I have ever been so happy for a trip to end.
Though I look grotesque and hideous, today I vowed to see a little bit of San Sebastian before I go. If anybody is ever in this area and is looking for accommodation, I would definitely, definitely recommend Pension Itxasoa. It is right by the water and the people there are beautiful, beautiful people. They have going out and buying me food and checking on me to make sure I am alright. When my mother rang to check on me, they reassured my mother that I was getting better.
Thank God I had decided beforehand to shout myself somewhere nice towards the end of my trip.
Anyway, what I did see of Spain, I loved. La Alhambra in Granada and the Albayzin were amazing, the Mezquita in Cordoba was stunning, I loved the Cathedral in Sevilla, Toledo was a lovely town to walk through and the little of Madrid I got to see - mainly the Sofia Reina Museum - was well worth the trip.
Thanks again people!!
You are all wonderful!
