Okay – so I think most of you know how very rarely I shave – anything. It goes without saying then that the thing I shave least are my armpits. And I never wear deodorant – only if I’m wearing silk or cashmere or something I would have to dry clean if I musted it. Well, for the last four days, I have had such bad B.O. – and it normally never stinks. I feel like within 30 minutes of showering I can smell the funk creeping in. It totally sucks!
The last thing I want is to have to start using deodorant or worse, shave. Any ideas on what might be causing this sudden strong odor? I haven’t been eating anything out of the ordinary or extra funky. What the hell gives?

What a GREAT topic!!!
I don't use deodorant either and obviously do not shave my pits...the only time I seem to really smell is
1. I change climates (which just happened recently), or
2. get sick.
I got sick a couple of weeks ago and for a few days after the B.O. was bad... So any change of weather or health???

Hmm. I do shave and I do use deodorant, so I'm not sure how much help I'll be:
1. Are you taking different vitamins / just started or just quit taking vitamins?
2. Any new or discontinued medications?
3. Did you change your laundry detergent and maybe it's, well, not cleaning your clothes quite as good?
4. Are you pregnant??? KIDDING!!!
5. Are you more stressed out than you were before you noticed the onset of B.O.?
6. Like KCL said, has the climate gone through any wonky changes?
I dunno, babe. That's the best I can think of.

Yea seriously dude, I don't smell either. I decided to stop using deodorant a few years back and after about 3 weeks no B.O. The only time I smell is if I go out and do some sort of strenuous activity and get all hot and sweaty. It works for me, but I am not sure it would work for everyone.

Here's a list of possible causes of body order from WrongDiagnosis.com.
Ok, so I don't really trust the name of the site, either, but it looks legit!

What's the aversion to deodorant?
I don't wear it everyday, mor even most days, but I have some around in case.

Part of the normal body odor thing is bacteria that occur naturally in the hairy dark moist spots. If you use anti-perspirant, it alters the chemistry of that area. When you stop, it can take a bit for the bacteria balance to go back to something you're used to.
Most anti-perspirants use salts that actually cause you to sweat less, as well as change the chemistry and retard bacterial growth.
With that in mind, things like fungus, different kinds of bacteria, illness and dietary changes can all cause B.O. problems.
If you're adverse to deodorant, I recommend powder. It'll help keep the area dry, and if it is some sort of bacteria thing, that may be all it takes to make it go away.
(I'll stick to my Speed Stick... I work too hard not to)

Think i just threw up in my mouth a little bit...
Sorry, I sweat a ton, especially at work. If I didn't deodorize, even after taking a shower, i'd be raunchy.
Plus the skin tends to absorb odors as well. Smoking, cooking, etc. Since we are all friends here, I stink on ice after a shift in the kitchen sauteing. The oil in my skin absorbs the smell of fish, chicken, veal, onions, garlic, etc and stays for days....
And as for au natural, your deal, not mine. But don't hate me for liking a lady that shaves... especially down... there...

i have basically never worn deodorant. and i have only had the funk TWO times that i can remember. and i'm 23 so that's a few years of post puberty gland action. i think deodorant actually causes you to get smelly. kinda like your body gets addicted to it and can't de-funk itself without it. like how carmex makes your lips dry. of course, i have no scientific evidence to back this up, but hey, if you don't believe me ask sd, she's smelled me plenty of times over the years.......

Yea, I am totally of that mind set...anti-perspirant is proven to be bad for your body. Monsignor, you said it dude...it actually makes you sweat less than your body deems necessary..not good. Anyhow, I think some people need something to cover the B.O. smell, but some people don't. It's been 7 or 8 years since I have used deodorant (more than like once or twice a year).

I don't sweat too much, even if I'm doing physical activity. The thing that kills me is sudden climate changes. (I think someone mentioned this)
If I go from an air conditioned car to a hot summer day or like when its cold as hell and my office is way too hot, I can sweat like a pig. I don't get it...
I swear by my anti-perspirant & my cologne, I like to smell good. Like right now, I smell DAMN good!
Someone needs to smell me, I'm making my own mouth water.... I mean...

It could be some bacterial infection on the hair? Just shave it all off and see if that helps? You can always regrow it later - it's just hair!

Well, I don’t wear deodorant unless I absolutely have to because 1) until recently, I hardly ever stunk. I would sweat sure, make a little moisture – but no offensive odor -and- 2) I think deodorant and anti-perspirant are bad for your biology (ha!) – one needs to sweat and there’s some sort of weird aluminum or something in deodorant, isn’t there?
Anyway – I guess maybe I’ve been a little more stressed at work lately, that could be it. I’m reluctant to shave because I’ve wore the hair so long and have never had this problem. It’s just plain weird. Hah! Well enough of this very personal topic then! I appreciate your being audience to my musty musings : )
Since I know how interested ya’ll are – I’ll make sure to let you know when this clears up! Haha!
