while the article makes it sound dangerous, I still think i have more chance of being in a car accident than being killed while traveling.

besides we all gotta go sometime, I'd rather have enjoyed my life and seen some really cool stuff than to have sat at home all my life saying "what if."

oh and as for the crocs, be very careful where u go swimming in nothern aus, tourists are starting to feed the crocs close to capmsites, (really stupid), which attracts them and makes it dangerous for everyone.

Perhaps the influence of sites like Travelpunk will help make the backpacker world more safe and connected. So some of these types of incidents won't occur as often.

no danger, no fun.

However, it would suck enormously to die and/or have someone else die while travelling...

my suggestion is to be VERY careful travlling in a car around the Northern Territory. I suggest travelling in a fairly large group.... Ok, well im being a bit over exagerated but the thing is thats the place where it is soo easy to kill someone dump there body and have no evidence found by the police (its so big, not many ppl round there) - in the secluded roads.... lol ok well i mean it happens... thats just the place that would scare me.. lol.... i dont know much but.... i know this sounds damn RACIST but wen i went through some aboriginal communities - their scary! not all of em, but you'd prob not go through em anyway coz their in the middle of nowhere.. but alcahol has destroyed alot of those places.. well im just talkin bout 2 towns that i would neva wanna sleep at... oh ye, tourists hav been killed by this, BE CAREFUL swimin north coz theres alotta croc infested places.. not everywhere but u know.. i though i saw a baby one once and i got out straight away.......

Are crocs pretty much in every river, lake and coast of AUS? I don't see how I'd ever feel safe gettin' in the water, then! Yea, I've swum in lakes here with alligators before - but not if they're infested and I think gators are less aggressive, too?

No.

They're rampant in the Top End of the NT, Northern Queensland and Northern Western Australia.

As for the driving through the NT thing, I've never had a problem (old Darwin local), but you do have to watch out I guess.

Use your common sense guys is the main thing. The locals have to sometimes laugh at the stupidity of some tourists. Don't camp to close to billabongs, don't get drunk and then run into the billabong, and if you're not comfortable with it, don't stop for people. 99.9% chance they're honest people.
