Always make 2 sets of copies of your passport, airline tickets, travlers cheques, insurance papers and credit cards, keep one safley away from the original and keep one set at home with a friend or family member. It is much easier to get replacments when you have the copies.

Also make sure any perscriptions you must take are full, you do not want to be over charged when trying to fill them over seas, and have a Dr. note say that you really need to take those drugs, you do not need any problems @ customs in a forien country.

Yeah, in particular, it's good to have the credit card PHONE NUMBERS on hand that you can quickly call to cancel if your wallet gets stolen.

just wanted to add:

always be aware of where your country's embassy is located in the country you are travelling in.

Solid tips, crew !

I always email myself my PIN numbers, bank account numbers, and credit card numbers, but IŽll type them in backwards, put the last four digits up front, or add a digit or two, to throw off any potential hacker perusing through my emails. Sometimes I need to order something online and wonŽt have the right card handy or pay a credit card payment online from a different bank account so IŽll switch from one account to the other for a month or two. I just go into my email at any cafe, get the digits, and do my business. I guess that this is for those staying overseas for any great length of time.

Also, take some extra contact lenses, and your eye prescription just in case you need to get more contacts or accidentally break your glasses and need to buy new glasses overseas without having to pay extra for the eye exam.
