What the hell man. I only slept about 6 hours last night, I should be tired as hell but I'm not. So I take a Tylenol PM and drink some alcohol cuz this always works.....and nothing!! DAAAAMNIT!! I want to go snowboarding tomorrow but at this rate, if I ever do fall asleep, I'll be sleeping till 2pm!!!

So anyway, do y'all have some secrets for going to sleep when you absolutely must sleep?? Or do you just say screw it, I'll deal with the lack of sleep the next day?? See I'm weird, if I get less than 8 hours of sleep, I'm tired all day, and if I get more than 9 hours of sleep....I'm tired all day. It sucks.

So what're your secrets?? I know a lot of you have gone to or are in college and I KNOW you've gone to bed late when you need to wake up early the next morning. What's the deal?? I heard that 45 minutes of hypnotic meditation is like 8 hours of sleep but I'm one of the 10% or so of people that can't be hypnotized.

One thing one of my preffessors at uni swears by is reading the book his brother wrote, he cant get past the 1st page. If you're desperate for something really boring to read i could send u a chapter of my thesis, it puts me to sleep

it's sposed to be a thing of getting into the habit of going to bed at the same time and in a relaxing environement. One thing that i've found that helps is decluttering your room. weird but it works. if youre stressed, write out why then put it aside, if u cant sleep after 1/2 hour get up, watch infomercials or crap 80's sitcoms and then try again.

I used to be a big time insomnia sufferer. Then I read that you should not read, watch TV, eat or do ANYTHING in bed (well, one exception) except sleep. Otherwise, your mind will be in the "Okay, entertain me" mode, rather than sleep mode.

It worked for me. Oh, and it probably goes without saying, no caffeine anytime within a few hours of bedtime.

If I can't sleep, I usually read a bit....but I usually don't have a problem.

I was for awhile there though, b/c I was napping in the afternoon, and now I have to try so hard every day not to take a nap so I can just do work and get to bed earlier, but it's really hard! I am usually in a tired slump from about 4-6...

i do all this and still no luck. This morning i went to sleep around 5am and got up at 10am and i feel so tired all the time and my brain is always in the entertainment mode wink wink and the man i am sleeping with is married (yeah yeah steph i know what your going to say!) so usually its a case of entertaining myself with a bag of sex toys and a nice bottle of red

ha ha i cant believe i told you guys that lol

I dunno, I have major insomnia issues, but if i smoke some, umm, "tobacco" before bed I usually nod right off. That and listening to soothing music, like Dropkick Murphys does it.

Or lots of sex. God knows I can't stay awake long after that. Maybe thats why I don't sleep.. not enough sex. :D

I just bought one of these from Sharper Image over the holidays. It will play one of twenty ambient noises for a specified time and then slowly fade away over a few minutes. Once you start focusing on that sound you're out like a light.

It also has the best alarm I've ever heard. Real soft church bells that start off very quietly and build up volume-wise over a couple minutes. I don't want to smash my alarm in to tiny bits when I wake up.

Benadryl. Better than any sleeping aid... except for Ambien, but that stuff's scrip only.
