perfume scam

I don't remeber reading about this scam on this site or any travel guidebook so I figured I'd put it out there.

Yesterday at work I was talking to my aunt in the parking lot and a couple approached us in an SUV and asked us if we like perfume. My aunt told them she'd heard of a scam that starts like that and told them she wasn't interested. I had never heard of this scam before. The idea is that they get you to smell the "perfume" (or any other things they might get you to sniff...flowers maybe) which is actually a drug that knocks you out, then they steal all your stuff.

I don't know if its true. It seems plausible. She told me that she had read about it in the paper. Better safe than sorry though right.

Yeah I got an email about that scam...you know those things they tell you to forward to all your female friends for safety...better safe than sorry though right?

Hey yeah, thats big down here in S.A. Especially columbia, there is a plant that has a toxin (not sure on the Flora sorry) but apperently it has no smell and no taste so they put it in smokes, drinks and food and once its in your system your out like a light. If your gonna smell somethng make sure someone is with you thats gonna be the designated sniffer. Again I think its a real far and few between scam so dont let a worry about something like this hamper your trip, if your in a reputible perfume store then well go ahead, but if some shifty dude on the street pulls some Dior out of his coat I would think twice. Just use common sense!
Somone comming up to my car window would be a no no!
