Safety true story in Buenos Aires

Well, considering all the questions regarding safety while travelling I'll just add my two cents: look out for your stuff and be street smart. And sometimes, well, shit happens, and there's not much we can do about it...:)

Take one of the Bush's twins for example... the eldest had been in Argentina for about a month, and then the younger sister came to visit her... this was in December. On the youngest twin's FIRST NIGHT in Buenos Aires, while she was having dinner with a group of friends in the Palermo neigbourhood she got her purse stolen , secret service and everything. :lol:And then EVERY SINGLE news paper knew they were here... and that meant a lot of media coverage and all that stuff.

Moral of the story: not even the secret service can save you from muggings!! And considering *most* of us don't count with their service, just be smart :aikido: , be aware of your suroundings, don't leave your stuff unattended: have your purse on your lap, or lace your backpack to the chair or your foot and you'll be just fine!

It royally sucks to be the one who let their guards down and have something of yours snatched without you even noticing it. I've been there before and you just feel soooo stupid for not taking the little steps that you should have taken without even thinking about it.

Being in the US, I feel completely safe leaving my stuff on a table at Starbucks or other coffee shops while I go to the bathroom or step outside for some air or something. I think the people here naturally have a tendency to watch each others back and we take things seriously when it comes to robbery and thieves.

But overseas....fuggedaboutit:wacko: .

So, travelers, get used to securing your belongings at all times! It's always great to reiterate this basic yet absolutely necessary tip.

Thanks, Flor:cheers: !
