I've just developed a kneecap problem which flares up through overuse, although it is a bit risky to go travelling I didnt want to put my life on hold for a few aches and pains.

I just wanted to ask the people of the board if they have ever had any similar problem or travelled with an injury before and how they managed pain & flare-ups whilst on the road or in Hostels?

A trip to Amsterdam usually eases the pain...

I kid, I kid. Though I'm sure it'd work.

Bring over-the-counter pain relievers with you. I have a bum knee, and I find that a couple Aleve (an American brand of naproxen) is pretty much all I ever need for that sort of stuff.

The worst injuries I had to deal with were a broken rib and busted tooth in Australia, and that's when the fact that they sell codeine over the counter in Oz came in very handy.

Ibuprofen is another good all-around pain reliever/fever reducer/anti-inflammatory - if it works for a C-section, it'll work for a sore knee, I promise! Some people have stomach troubles from it, so if it's new to you, you might want to be sure to take it with food or milk - I've never had any problems with it, so I don't know exactly what they involve. Motrin is one over-the-counter brand name, or you can buy no-name brand too.

You also might want to consider taking a bandage to wrap your knee if you need to give it a little extra support.

Dude I had the broken ankle right a few days before I left to CT or some place and I remember the pain was chill-worthy and all, but naw if you stop thinking of the pain and cancel it out it won't hurt. Oh what about ol' morphine.
