I think I have found what I want for my Birthday!!!PacSafe

This thing is very cool, You get to keep your pack nice and safe, with out worry of it gettting slashed or stolen, it seems to be avery cool invention...

Does anyone know anything more about this thing??? Is it any good for real? I am very curious???

Looks good..Though I would never have enough energy to actually but that on my bag everytime i left the room. And I wonder how heavy it is.

Ya, good question Dio, I was wondering the same thing...how heavy is this thing? and how easy is it to attach around your bag??? And Moc I wonder if you are right, maybe this would give the impression thatyou have something worth takening hense more effort from a crook???

I saw one of thoes once, and it was pretty heavy. Probably 3- 4 lbs. I don't want the extra weight to carry on my back. I'm already bringing eough stuff

I've never seen anyone actually use one of those. More dead weight. But I'm not sure how common theft really is in hostels. Anyone have any clue?

3 to 4 lbs huh? that is quite heavy??? BUt it could come in handy. not just in hostels, but while sleeping on a train or in a bus station or airport, during the time you drop it off in the airport to the time you can pick it up. if your on public transit...More commments please on this folks, If ANYONE has used this item before, please post!!!

i know you're looking for proof positive feedback here... but... i only read a few unfavorable reviews on that product somewhere on the net (like that's really supposed to be validating, ha!) haven't tried it, and really wasn't considering buying one... but i remember after reading the reviews i decided i'd really never buy one.

I considered buying one on my first trip, but figured that since I was staying in privates, it wasn't necessary. They look like they'll do the job, but I once read somewhere that they actually bring more attention to your backpack as if you REALLY had something super valuable in there.

I opted for a coil-type bike chain and masterlock.

Although, in my private rooms (no matter what country) if I left any valuables in my bag while away, I would chain up my bag to a wall heater or metal bedframe/door, and run the lock through the main zipper and backpack handle making it almost impossible for anyone (like a devious maid or corrupt hostel worker) to enter my room and go through my bag. Paranoid...perhaps, but I wonder if I actually warded off any potential backpack hijackers

At the top of the Safety Tips page you'll see the chain and lock that I brought.

A girl I just bunked with had a smaller version of this. More like a bike chain that wraps around the pack (you secure your zippers with smaller locks) then chain it to a bed or whatever. She loved it. Like I said it was MUCH smaller than this model and didn't wrap around the entire pack like a net - just chaining it to something. She said that she never had any problems and it worked best in places without lockers!

The website says that it's only 1 to 1.5 lbs. What they should do is make a pack that has that on the inside (between layers of fabric) so that your bag couldn't be slashed, but doesn't look like it has an ultra security type thing on it. Of course, this wouldn't help with opening zippers and such.
I agree that it makes it look like you have something to hide, but might be worth it on the train, etc.

I have that very same pacsafe. It cost me about £40. It's not too heavy, and as I'm travelling around on my own this year, I think it will reassure my mind. I'm going to use it to chain to my bed in some hostels and on long train journeys, etc.
I think it's quite good actually. Maybe more stuff to carry, but, I'd rather not have my underwear stolen!

Hey Beady, thanks for the first hand comments on this product, so would you say this product is a good one? Would you recommend it? Can you let me know during your trip or after how much good it was to you? i am curious if it worth the extra cost...

Thanks for the welcome guys! I shall definetly tell you all how it goes with the pacsafe thingy. Of course your gonna have to wait til I do actually go away. Which is umm....in May.

I plan to use my bike cable and lock. Uncutable, unpickable. Rumor has it you pretty much need to use dynamite to get it off unauthorized.
