Hey all. This is my first post, but I have found this board extremely interesting in the weeks i've been reading it. Here's my question. I live in Germany near Saarbrucken, and I have a 4 day weekend coming up. I also have a car. Where could a person like me who is short on money go this weekend to have an interesting time? I'll be going it alone, so I'm looking for something that is good in solitude. I'm willing to drive anywhere in France, Germany, Luxemburg, Belguim and The Netherlands. Any suggestions are appreciated.

How about the South of France, before it gets overrun with summer tourists and french people on holiday. Even though it's still too cold for the beaches, the south of France offers sooo much. Try Avignon and Camargue area.
Eitherway, I don't think you can go wrong, no matter what decision you take. I wish I had that opportunity!

Herzlich Willkommen bei TravelPunk !
If you're short on time and budget, maybe a Wochenende in the beautiful and relaxing french countryside, since you're so close to it. You could find yourself a nice Bed & Breakfast ( click here for info in german) and not come back exhausted from driving a long way.
Prost !

You could hop up to Trier (vestiges of Roman settlement, supposedly the "oldest city in Germany") and then over to Luxembourg city. Or there's Hautes Fagnes National Park on the border of Germany/Belgium about 100 km north of Trier. Plenty of WWI and WWII history in northern France/Belgium if that appeals. You're also pretty close to Strasbourg and nearby Colmar, one of my favourites in eastern France. Check out the travelpunk homepage for hostel suggestions. Have fun!

I say go see the Alps. Having your own car will make this great -- being over to pull over and take photos, stop at all the little towns.
Good luck!

Yeah, Auschwitz is a looooong way from you...save it for a longer visit, there's so much else to see in that area. Have fun!

I've decided on Strasbourg for Friday. I really want to see the cathedral and take some pictures. Has anybody been there and have any ideas of what I must see?
Saturday I'll be heading to Stuttgart to catch an anarcho-hardcore-punk show. Thanks for the suggestions.
