Yeah, that laundry service in Peru was so awesome. I think I paid 7 soles, about $2, to get everything in my pack washed, folded, and returned sealed in plastic. They even smelled spring fresh! I'm pretty sure they hand wash it too.
The only other option there really would have been the sink or shower, really no such thing as a laundromat or machine wash, and where would you hang it anyway?

Yeah, I second the Peruvian laundry services. Actually, the jeans I'm wearing still have a little string that they tied on them, 18 months ago.
It depends on the cost. I can hand wash pretty damn well (use real detergent, not bar soap like half of you probably do), so if its too expensive I do it myself. In Europe, well . . . I guess I didn't do laundry because I never traveled for more than four days at a time. In SE Asia its super cheap and fast to do the service. In India and Nepal they just scrape it across the street and give it back to you with holes, so I did it myself.

Having lost my luggage for the first 5-6 days on a 5 week trip I can say that I hate sink washing. That being said, I hate spending money even more! Hand washing doesn't seem to really clean the clothes to my satisfaction. I hate sitting in a laundo-mat. And like I said I hate spending money to have my clothes washed for me. I did use a laundry service once during my travels and it was well worth the money.

I don't know... that may be more accurate than we care to admit

I wait until I find a hostel that will do it for me either paid or for free. Every now and again ill find a laundrymat and do it myself though.

my clothes are color matched on purpose so they can all go in the same load if need be. I have been known to hang around the laundry room of random hotels in just shorts and shoes.

travelled for 8 months around s.e asia and never once used a sink to wash my clothes in. On the well trodden tourist routes of asia, there's plenty of places that offer laundry services for next to nothing.
