Hi everyone!! First let me say this site is by far the best I have run across on the web. I have learned so much and plan to use the advice givin here for my first trip. I cant wait to go!! I need a little help planning. I am 26 years old from Minnesota, USA. So far what I have booked is Flying in to Amsterdam on October 8th and leaving Rome October 26th. I need help on where to go and what to see. I know my time is short, thanks to work, but plan to go back again in 2006. So far I got Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, Venice, Florence, Rome. Giving me a few days in each city. Will I have enough time to see the major attractions? Party a little? Explore a little? I am thinking of a Eurail pass for 15 days, and staying in hostels. After travel expenses I have budgeted 80/us a day for food/drink, is that enough? Sorry for the long winded post, but its almost overwhelming all the planning. Maybe I am stressing to much, but hey I like to have my bases covered. Thanks in advance for your help. Counting the days!!

Rich

Hey...congrats on the plans...it sounds like you will have a blast. I am no expert, but from what it sound like you may not need that much of a eurorail pass. i think if you buy now there may be an extra day added, so a 6 day may do you fine. im heading out in about 2 months and i have a general plan of seeing england, ireland, belgium, the netherlands, france, and spain in a 3 week time frame. its a little crunched, but the plan is to do a couple days in a city and a couple in a smaller town for each place. im thinking dublin, and gledalough, and madrid and seville...you get the idea. you budget sound good. welcome to the site and beleieve me, you will find plenty of info on here, and plenty of helpful people as well.

You've obviously done your homework RC. Your budget and plan of cities sounds great. If you need any specific ideas of smaller places to see outside those cities, let me know(I don't know if you have a plan already).

I agree with Timmy on the Eurail pass thingy. what you want to do is use the days on yer eurail pass for the long trips, ADam->Paris, Paris->Munich, stuff like that. then for your smaller trips, like day trips. You find out how much a ticket would cost if you bought it straight out and compare it to the extra you'd be spending for your long Eurail pass.

For instance, two good daytrips from Munich are Dachau and Neuschwanstein(both on buses). Paris to Versaille is just a metro ticket. Rome to Tivoli is a bus ticket. So if you think about it you only need 5 days. you might want to get a 7 day one if there is an option but if not, save your money and just buy point to point tickets beyond what your rail pass will cover
