don't people wear t-shirts out?

or is that just an australian thing...? i have this feeling we may dress quite casually going out compared to in other countries (that doesn't mean it's any less competitive or takes boys any less time to get ready!)

if you're after shirts tho, i'm sure you could buy some while you're travelling.

Greetings everybody! I'm planning on backpacking across asia for about a year in one month, but I'm caught in a little bit of a dilemma as to what kind of button down shirt I should bring for when I got into bars and clubs. The button down shirts I have right now aren't really suited for backpacking(too delicate, dry-clean only kind of stuff)

I'm planning on wearing jeans(dark), and brown leather boots, so I just need to find a shirt that will go with that. I'm looking for something that looks somewhat snappy, won't get insanely wrinkled in my pack, and will be easy to wash. Anyone have any ideas?
Are you sticking to South Asia or will you also be heading to North Asia (China, Korea, Japan)? If you stick to South Asia, given the climate you may want to stick to short sleeves. I will tell you, though, that most places in SEA are very casual. Unless you are going to a really upscale place, jeans and a t-shirt is fine. If you are going North, to either Japan or some of the major Chinese cities, such as Hong Kong or Shanghai, some of the nicer clubs and bars may require a little bit dressier attire (particularly in Japan from what I have heard), but even then a t-shirt will likely make do - I have been in some very upscale clubs in Hong Kong and saw people in t-shirts (I don't have any experience with Japan). I wouldn't stress about it too much, but a synthetic, dark dress shirt will likely hold up best and be the least wrinkled if you insist on bringing one. For example, I have a short sleeved, black buttoned/collared shirt that is made of a stretchy, synthetic material that is great as it doesn't wrinkle and is machine washable and is dressy enough for everything I have come across in Asia. Good luck!

dude, just buy when you get there and save yourself the trouble of running around to a bunch of different stores at home. Plus, you can always bring those clothes back as a souvenier

Just buy it there, it's really that simple. Don't go to REI to buy clothes neither. Buy something that you would actually wear even after your trip.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone.

So it's settled then, I'm going naked, then picking up snappy clothes when I get there! Awesome!
