Default Average backpack weight? (for flying)

Hi all

I have just gone to book my flights and came onto a small point that seems like it could end up costing me quite a bit of money

I was planning on flying with ryanair but when i was checking the T&C it seems i am only allowed to take a maximum of 15kg of baggage on the flight (easyjet is a 20kg max) and after that its £6 per kilo (which if im not careful can get very expensive very fast)

Now i know it will be different for everyone but my question is:

what's the average weight of a full backpack?
does anyone have any experience with ryanair/easyjet and loading bags on?

any advice?

i am only planning on flying once for the whole trip if it makes any difference

Thanks all

Make sure you weigh your bag at home before you go.
If its too heavy I would consider a carry on back pack. A lot of things in a back pack can easily be put in a carry on bag things like books cameras and what not.
What sort of things are you packing?

I'm a big guy, and thus have big/heavy clothes... I've never had a bag weigh more than 20kg(roughly 45 pounds), it's usually around 35-40 pounds personally, thats including a 4 month stay in England... I figure if you pack smart, you'll be alright.

On my last trip (3 months in hot climates), my pack was 12kg when I left and 15kg on the way back, but then it was full (70 litre). Unless you're taking unusually heavy items you should be fine, but definitely weigh it in advance if you're worried and as has been mentioned, put heavy items in your carry-on luggage.
