ok, so i'm really starting to get scrrrrred now. i leave pretty soon for my trip to europe and i still have no plans. i'm planning on getting a eurail pass, and i guess my main question is: is it really easy to get around on the trains? like if i need to get from france to germany, am i going to be able to easily find a train station, hop on a train, and get to germany without ending up somewhere like spain?? obviously i never did this before, so comfort me!!

p.s. i posted one topic before, but i guess it turned out to be a locked topic or something. what's up with that?? and what the hell does that mean?

thanks!!

Trains, Trains Everywhere!!! My dear LisaK there are more trains in Europe than in any other place in the world I think...Trains in every direction!!! Just get to the train stn and your pretty much set. There is staff there in the day that will direct you on what train you will need to catch and there are time tables at the stn as well. Finding a train should be the least of you worries!!!

The only place I've had difficulty with trains is where they use the Cyrllic alphabet. Sofia was hard to decipher, but you can always ask people...write down names and such, and you'll be able to get around. If all else fails, ask fellow travelers...you'll be able to tell them by the huge backpacks and Lonely Planets clutched under their arm. Usually a goofy hat, too!

Seriously, you'll be fine. And you'll feel a mighty accomplishment navigating across foreign countries...

If you can find one before you go, a great resource is the Thomas Cook European Rail Schedule. It lists all the trains everywhere on the continent (except perhaps some tiny little two stop jobs that you've never heard of) with as up-to-date schedule info as possible. Then if you find yourself unexpectedly in Spain, you can figure out when the next train back to Germany is. The margins are also handy for making notes, if you're not taking a palm pilot! Have fun, you'll get the hang of the trains in no time.
