Can You Fly Alone If Your Under 18?

Hey
I just have a question.I'm only 16,I'm aleady done High School anfd right now i'm just saving and planning on going on a trip with someone I know from work.I'm planning on going down to South America since I know people down there and would have a place to live and to work.

Anyways my question is do you know if I can travel internationaly even though I am under 18?The person I am planning on going on the trip with is 19 but i'm worried that I'll get stopped at customs of something and won't be allowed to travel until i'm 18.If any of you guys know anything on this that would be awesome!!!Thanks

I have contacted some friends in the travel business, and there is apparently no restriction on you travel'n alone if your 16, BUT you should always check with the carrier you are flying with to be sure there are no additional costs with flying as a minor...
