The mini rough guide for Rome worked out well for me. The writing was very insightful and it was important when trying to figure out if a place was worth seeing. It revealed interesting points about a plethora of sites, and it was pretty well-written. Go for it!

Generally, I like Lonely Planet, but we were given an Eyewitness guide to D.C., and it was pretty cool - all those colour pics and diagrams. Good size for daytripping. Maybe we liked it because it was good for the kids to use, though. Also, another guide that isn't on the list is "In Your Pocket" for tons of cities, mostly in Eastern Europe. You guys know I love 'em.

Hey just a quick question that doesn't deserve it's own thread:
Some of you mentioned LP guides being updated. Does anyone know when new versions come out? I'd like to buy one soon but since I won't be traveling for a looooong time (11-ish months!) I'd hate for it to be out of date by the time I go.
Cheers

I think it's during spring time, but they don't publish new versions every year for all books. Better ask your librarian.
