hey yall,
so i leave for my two month backpacking trip for europe in three days on march 10. i am already packed and i wanted to see if i am missing anything. i got the jansport europack. it's a travel pack with the daypack attached.
clothes (packed in full size travel cube):
1 pair kackis dark gray
1 pair dark blue travel pants (zip off into shorts)
1 pair jeans (i need them)
1 pair workout pants (to sleep in and for day use)
4 t-shirts (one long sleeve)
1 sweater
1 button up long sleeve black shirt
1 short sleeve button up
1 black dickies jacket (can dress up if needed)
1 rain jacket
1 wifebeater (for sleeping)
7 pairs white socks
7 underwear (socks and underwear in second half travel cube)
cheap sandals for shower
adidas shoes
scarf
beanie
baseball hat

tolletries:
2 small bottles of body wash (i shave my head and will use this for my head)
toothbrush and toothpaste
small bottle of shaving gel
razor mach three with one blade
smal first aid kit w/ bandaids, advil, sudafed, imodium, moleskin, and saline nose spray (i get bloddy noses when dry, last time in amsterdam i got a lot of bad coke jokes from people on the street)
anti fungal cream (don't need any athletes foot
dental floss
anti-wrinkle spray
deoderant
large pac towel

everything else:
let's go guidebook
2 two books to read (small not heavy)
notebook for notes on journal
rio karma mp3 player and headphones (with chager and push on adapter)
pens
bussiness cards
small led light with compass
digital camera
travel alarm clock
deck of cards
bandanna
neck pillow
padlock with cable
zipperlocks
glasses and sunglasses
zip lock bags
a couple power bars
packets of emergane -c (mix with water great for an energy boost and for hangovers)
3 travel rolls of travel tolet paper (you never know!) 1 in daypack others in main pack.
moneybelt
rail pass (with copy)
passport (with a copy in main bag)
atm (hidden extra card) and credit card
2 $100 bills one in moneybet other hidden in main pack

that's about it. my two main questions are should i take a sleep sheet and about laundry? this is my third time to europe but my first time backpacking by myself on doing the whole hostel thing. the last time i was there was on a rock tour of spain. does it look like i am missing and thing or could loose? has antone use the travel cubes? they look like they could be handy for organizing. i got all my clothes in it.
my bag is a little heavy but i'm a big guy and i know i can handle it.
also has anyone been in march, april, and may? i was wonder what the weather is like. i'm from los angeles so i'm not used to really cold weather.

thanks,

dude currently the temps are like 5C Hi and 0C Lo. Pretty frikin cold. Im going to get some 'long johns' thermals and I leave next week.

Im not sure about your eyes but I have eyesight as bad as a bat. I have both glasses and contacts and couldnt live without one or the other. Do you need to take your prescription incase your specs get smashed or lost?

i always take emergen-c!
it's great for on the plane and during those first few days after arrival (to avoid getting the travellers cold)....
after that i have one every other day for good measure.

i think you should take 2 more blades for your razor... one blade for 2 months?
if you shave your head and face w/ the same blade - you certainly need one more!

a few must-have's (for me at least...)

- tums and anit-diaherreal (you may never use them, but they could be real lifesavers!!)

- eye drops

- pocket knife

- watch

do you need batteries or a charger for your digi camera?

as for laundry, i normally wash some items by hand (like panties, socks) when i'm gonna be in one place for more than a night. and some hostels have laundry services, so you can pay to have stuff washed or wash it yourself.

happy traveling!!

thanks guys,
i don't shave my head with a razor just for my face every couple days . i was going to cut it before i leave and let it grow a little then just get it cut once about a month in. cali girl i actually am bringing all the stuff on your list i just forgot to write it down. i got a gerber leatherman type with a corkscrew. i got batteries for my camera too. bring 20 of them just in case. my camera takes four. my glasses are mainly for reading and tv, so i will live if i loose them.
do you think i need a sleepsheet and should i have laundry stuff?

i take a travel sized bottle of woolite, a flat drain stopper thing, and some stretchy string stuff as a clothes line...
do the same... sleep sheet... yeah, if you're staying in hostels. if you afford afford yourself cheap hotels, you won't need it.

wow i'm shocked. I thought the wifebeater slang had made it's way around the world. glad to know it hasn't.

As for bringing a sleep sheet. I would say most definately. Some times you need it for extra warmth and other times it's nice to have cuz sometimes sheets in certain hostels aren't that clean.

Wow, metalsign, your list is pretty complete. I'm all about bearing down and carrying minimum weight so here are few tips:

- black shirt - i assume this is for going out, switch it to a lighter color, maybe a grey? Black collects lints and shows wrinkles more
- toss short sleeve button up, it's not gonna be that warm and you have the long sleeve button up for going out dressier if needed
- toss 1 body wash bottle, if you run out, you can pick up soap/wash for very cheap anywhere, in the meantime you don't have to carry the added weight of an extra bottle that you won't be using till later in your trip
- addidas shoes is good, do you need a going out shoe? up to ya, one for both occasions would be perfect
- toss light/compass, don't really need it
- toss neck pillow, it's nice, but adds weight
- change large towel for medium and light
- toss pocket knife, they'll confiscate it at security anyway
- toss anti-fungal cream, unless you already need it, you're not going to be doing any trekking, plus you already have 7 pairs of socks, I think you're toes will be fine! ;-)
- toss beanie
- toss 1 book, pick up local magazines along the way
- did you include swim trunks?

hope this helps!

Emergen-C is awesome stuff! My mom used to make me take that when I was little. I didn't realize how popular it is! Did you ever mix it with OJ?

i do mix it with o.j. sometimes, makes it taste better than with water...
but i don't think it tastes that bad anyway...
i always worry a little when i do have it with oj though, what would that be 9000% of the rda?
