Is backpacking still common in Europe?
I've only been backpacking in Central America..and I'm thinking of taking my first European trip in 2013. Are hostels still common in most countries? Is there still much of a backpacking crowd?

TravelPunk has an awesome list of hostels. In terms of backpacking culture, as far as I know its still flourishing in Europe and you'll most likely meet travellers from all over the world.

backpacking (as in low-budget, independent travel), like coffee, beer, sex, parties, music or dancing... will ALWAYS be in.
