Hey,
My girlfriend and I are in our early 20's and would like to get to Europe ASAP. We don't really have a plan on what to do once we get there and actually don't even know how we're gonna get over there. Does anyone have any tips on the cheapest way to get to Europe and maybe some ideas on getting work and such?

Thanx,
Bob

As of now, we are unfortunately situated in Valdosta, Ga, USA. The idea just kinda popped into our heads while we were in Books-A-Million......"Hey. We're still young and stuff. Let's go backpacking through Europe for a while." So here we are, molesting the internet for any and all possibilities. Heck, we would probably even hop on one of those livestock planes from Indiana Jones at this point.

Yo Bob n Tawny! We're not to far away I live over in Bainbridge. I'm 19 planning on leave late September or early October. I'm taking off from Tallahassee though. The tickets I have seen run around 650-750 dollar range for flying into London Roundtrip . If that helps any. And if you leaving around my time or are already over there let me know...

Hey, welcome to the boards! I am from Atlanta and just got back from my trip. First of all, if either you or your girlfriend has an @edu email account, even if you're not still technically a student, you should search www.studentuniverse.com. They had the best prices when I was looking. Well, flying from Atlanta will be more expensive of course than flying from say New York or Boston. What I did was find a really reasonable flight from Newark to Europe, then bought an AirTran ticket between Atlanta and Newark. AirTran normally is one of the cheapest domestic airlines. But if you can, definitely check out studentuniverse.com. I actually flew to Lisbon and had to have a layover in Rome first, but I saved so much money that I didn't mind too much. Hope this helps!

Love,
Lauren

Hey,
Thanx for the info peoples. Actually, Jacksonville, FL is only about half as far as Atlanta. I was looking into Orbitz and found a ride for 640.00 each from Jax to Dublin. I don't get why round trip flights cost hella less then one way. We were planning on just selling everything we had and taking off, but I think that was just my stokedness talking. We're gonna try and scrape together at least a grand or so extra before we dip so as not to be totally slumming it. Hopefully, within about 3-4 months. When we do get ready to leave, it would be spiffy if we could find a travel mate. Maybe we can catch with some of you guys and have a cold one.

Fare thee well where ever ye may fare,
Bob

I have wondered the same frik'n thing??? Hey WorldWideMike, you work for an airline, can you shed some light on this ????

Saving money is a good idea, it might make you stay a little more comforatble, but the spour of the moment trips are so exciting...

And since your not leavingfor a few months, you can soak in all the infop you can from this site!!!!

From what I understand, one way tickets cost more because it is tougher to sell planes out when these are sold. When a round trip flight is sold, two tickets are used (going and returning). But, when a one way ticket is sold, especially to an overseas flight, it might be tough to fill a seat going back the other way. If your an airline company, you don't want to fly a plane with 350 people one way, and have the returning flight bring back only 200 people because of operating costs.

Hopefully this is a good enough explanation.

Well for starters, you will need a return ticket before you will be allowed into the country (unless you have a visa to work/live there). The 2 cheep places to fly into are Amsterdam (yes Amsterdam, i was shocked too!) and Brussels. I found a ticket from Orlando, FL to Amsterdam w/ Delta (stoppin in Atlanta there and back) for 416.00 with tax and everything. (after November 1st).

Check it out, or you can use good ol travelocity.com and click on the flex dates option.
