ok i'm sitting in ireland right now, not having a super time. quickly: we have an atm issued through a podunk us bank - it says cirrus and pulse on it and it's a visa. NO WHERE will take it (atm wise) - anyone have any solutions? Don't say "if it's cirrus/visa, you can use it anywhere" cuz you can't! We don't have access to our frickin money and the 30 E we have left won't cut it! save us please. oh yeah contacted our bank and they said that the atm has to say pulse - ummm... according to their site, they're only US. yeah would have been helpful to know earlier - like before we were not in the US.

Breathe girl, breathe. Jamiepeaski, I hope my ideas will do:

No bank is open to give you money with the card ?

Then, call someone at home and get quick transfer with Western Union. There must be an office where you are. It takes a few minutes to get cash !

Could Visa provide you with a more travelerfriendly card ? If so, communicate with the embassy/consulate where the card could be sent rush. It happened to me, I had lost my wallets, and Visa sent me a new card at the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi within 10 days (but Vietnam is further than Ireland). So all you need to know, is where you'll be in one week.

Good luck !

Jamie, that sucks! Do you have a back-up; maybe a credit card that you can use at an ATM machine and pull out cash? The other solution is to go to a bank with your ATM card. Since it says "Visa" you should be able to go to a bank and get money (there will be a fee involved).

I really hope this helps and that you get it sorted out soon!

If you can use it in shops then you can ask for cashback im sure, just ask the person behind the counter.

You probably can't get cashback at a shop with it as that usually involves a PIN number and that seems to be the problem. However, like KCL said, you SHOULD be able to walk into a bank and ask for a cash advance on the card since it has a visa logo on it.

Also, since it's a visa [debit] card, can you just use it to pay for things where credit cards are accepted? That's what I did a lot of the time.

Yep.. walk into a bank, and you should be ok.

Someone at my hostel in Dublin had the same problem - walked into a bank, waited forever in line, but was stylin' with a bunch of cash before the day's end.
