HEy guys,

I'm headed out to take summer classes in Berlin for six weeks and then I'm traveling for another three with a close friend of mine. I'm wondering what is the best way to pack for this trip. Because I'm going to be staying in one place and don't have to haul my stuff around for six weeks, I wanted to take more clothes (you know, do less laundry) and I need to bring about 6 books for my courses. If I do bring that stuff, what am I going to do with it while I travel?

My plane leaves out of Amsterdam, not Berlin so it isn't like I could just leave my stuff somewhere and get it later and I don't want to haul around a suitcase while I'm traveling.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

oh, I forgot.

5,500 in^3 bag for three weeks should be sufficient, right?

I'd be inclined to mail everything you don't need home (send it surface but insured...it'll take a while, but get there) as soon as you finish your course. You can get by with hardly anything for three weeks in the summer, so wouldn't have to drag much around with you at all. It'll be a heck of a lot more fun than dragging textbooks about!

Otherwise, perhaps you could just leave some of your stuff with someone in Berlin and stop by a couple of days before your flight to pick it up - then you only have to deal with too much stuff for a couple of days, not the whole time!

the problem with that is I have my trip planned out completely and going back to Berlin isn't one of my stops. I guess I could make a detour.

So my options are to
1) ship stuff home... I checked this out and it seems like it will be very expensive.
2) take it with me... obviously a huge pain in the butt
3) maybe find a storage place in Amsterdam and stop there on my way to London. My friend finishes his program in London on the 30th (I'm done the 24th), so I have six days before I even have to be there. I could grab a train or plane to Amsterdam, drop my stuff off, and go on to London. Any ideas of where I could stash my stuff? Does the airport have lockers or anything like that?

Thanks guys

Hmmmm, well, then I go back to my first suggestion. If you mail stuff surface it shouldn't be too horrendous, especially if you consider the cost of storing it at a train station somewhere - I don't know the exact rates, but say its 2 euro/day, that's 42 euro...you could probably get a fair bit sent home for that amount.

I haven't been in Western Europe much recently, so don't have current suggestions about storage in A'dam (I'm guessing the train station might be a better bet than the airport, airports being what they are these days), but hopefully someone else will be able to give you more current info in the next couple of days.
