ok i was all set for a-dam, ...and still am! but when i went to book the flights i noticed that these 4 destinitions were over half the price...which is one of my main concerns at this point in time!

so has any1 out there been to: brussels, stockholm, hambourg or dusseldorf?
if so where should i go for a fairly lively place with stuff to do?
r should i resort to paying double for a-dam and go with the dependable lively spot

I have not been to any of those but I can tell you what I have read.

I am going to Amsterdam and Brussels. FYI There are *hourly* trains that go between amsterdam and brussels and its roughly a 3 hour trian ride. I have read that Brussels has a great nightlife but I am willing to bet that Amsterdam will be hard to beat. I am leaving in exactly one week. I will be gone for two weeks. I will be happy to let you know my experience when I get back if you do not leave before then. Good Luck!

Of the places listed I didn't go to Dusseldorf. I think I would want to go back to Stockholm first. The old Gamla Stan is beautiful as are the trendy residents of Stockholm. The Absolut Ice Bar is really cool! You just need to be aware that it's pretty expensive up there.

I'd love to try some more Belgian beers but...

Things are so close together (except Stockholm's kind of off by itself on this list), why not fly into one of the cheaper places and spend a couple of days, then travel to Amsterdam for however long. I've been to Brussels and Stockholm, both have plenty to do, but I'm not much into the party scene so can't judge that for you. I imagine A'dam is hard to beat in that respect...

Don't know much about Dusseldorf, but it is close to Cologne and Bonn, as well as the borders of Belgium and the Netherlands.

If the airfare is that much cheaper, it's probably worth a couple of hours on the train, with the advantage of getting to see some other parts of the world...
