Hey! I'm going to Europe this summer and a few of my buds got me a Canadian flag to cover my pack.My question is,shoulh I be sporting this thing on my pack in Europe? or is it way too much of a risk? and I'll get beaten, shot and all that bad crap.Anyways they bought it for me with intent of use so should I use it or not?

It is true that Americans and now Britts may encounter problems (sorry, but that's the truth...) so the flag could help you not being mistaken for them. I'm Canadian, never wore one on my backpack, and despite never was in trouble. Maybe my french accent kind of helped me, maybe...

However, I was asked several times by fellow travelers why do Canadians wear those flags ??? Not everyone knows it's used as a safety ID. People think Canadians are REALLY proud of their country !

When I was checking in at my hostel in Munich, I saw a girl who had a down jacket with CANADA embroidered across the back and sleeves and pocket. She was wearing a CANADA emblazoned hat. She had sweat pants that said CANADA down the leg. And all over her backpack were maple leaf flag and CANADA patches. I am not making this up. If all of her stuff matched and she wasn't checking in to a hostel by herself I would have thought that maybe she was some sort of athlete, lol.

Nah, she's probably just a big Roots fan -that's a store we have up here, which also happens to be quite pround of its foundation They emblazon Canada everywhere on their merchandise. In fact it's one of the few stores you can go to to get some Canada merchandise............either that, or the girl really is a bit obsessed...............or an american who has problems with subtleties haha

Hey, Roots stuff is fantastic. So good that the US olympic team is outfitted with this Canadian stuff Our events manager at work ordered up a bunch of Roots shirts for me to dress up with a design, and man, everyone wants one - not for the design, per se, but because the t-shirt cut & quality is so damn good. Yay for Roots!

The Canadian Olympic team has just cancelled a contract with Roots clothing for the upcoming olympics in vancouver. They've gone with The Bay for their new look because they felt it was more "Canadian" go figure huh?

I'll have to sat that we are very proud of our country. It's a pretty sweet place when you come to think of it.We've got free health care, clean drinking water and really damn good beer .I would strongly urge anyone who wants to travel and experience some of the best camping, hiking and partying in the world to visit Canada.I think any Canuck on the boards will let you know how crazy we can get Again I love my country and everyting it stands for.

The Canadian Flag is well respected around the world, I have it on ALL my luggage.

I think you should also get a Travelpunk tattoo on your forehead though...

Hahah, that's awesome.

I don't like to over advertise that I'm Canadian. I think its a bit cliche these days. I had a neat little mapleleaf pin on my bag, but it fell off somewhere along the line. A simple, descrete, small flag would be sufficient.

way to represent my fellow canadians
I have a purse that has CANADA written across it, and it is sweet ass. Once when I didn't have it this lady in Scotland asked me for the time and after she heard me talk she asked if I was american and when I said no-Canadian, she said "oh, I am so sorry for insulting you", and she wouldn't stop apologizing, another guy asked if I was from North America or Canada, I answered Both.
Canada is awesome, but ROOTS is too expensive, I prefer my molsen Canadian shirt (which was bought out by an american company, arrgg), or my CANADA KICKS ASS sweater, which is all torn from snowboarding through trees.

i like roots quality but their insistance on having huge logos across most of their clothing bugs the hell out of me.
