Hey guys and gals...

My name is Kyle and this would be my intro I guess. I've used TPunk a lot and decided to get with the program and become a member. I'm headed to London on March 12th, stayin at the Generator for 3 nights whilst seeing the sights and all that hoopla and then headed to Paris via the EuroStar and staying at the Relais Akena Saint Denis-Garges in Paris. Basically, I'm at a loss with directions and have no idea how to get to my hostel! So if anybody has any good websites involving a mapquest kinda feel to it... it would be greatly appreciated. And if anybody will be in or around London/Paris in the middle of March, lemme know! we should go get a frosty cold beverage.

Wow, that's one out-of-the-way place for Paris! Here are the directions I found.. of course, you'll have to re-adjust them for coming from Gare du Nord, so just look at the RER map in the included link and you should be able to find your way from Gare du Nord...

Quote:
DIRECTIONS
BY TRANSPORT:

FROM PARIS: catch the train RER D (the green line) in the direction of "Orry-la-Ville - Coye", stop at the station "Garges - Sarcelles". Then catch the bus N° 333, stop at the station "Antoine Demusois".
FROM CHARLES DE GAULLE AIRPORT: catch the train RER D (green line) in the direction of Paris.stop at the station "Garges - Sarcelles". Then catch the bus N° 333, stop at the station "Antoine Demusois".

We are 1.5km from the SNCF station.

BY CAR:
From Paris by A1, exit N°4, then follow Garges les Gonesse.

We are located at the shopping centre "Globe" on the left, in the direction of Sarcelles.

From Lille by A1, le Bourget exit N°5, in the direction of Dugny / Garges, then Saint-Denis.

For your information about facilities in Paris area, we suggest you to consult the following web sites:
www.ratp.fr
or
www.sncf.com
or
www.transport-idf.com

Multimap is good for European map searches, but at the moment I cannot remember the name of my favorite map site for the LIFE of me. Grr.

To get to the Generator:

Take the Piccadilly line (blue line) to the Russell Square station. When exiting the station, turn right and take your first left-- I'm not sure what street it is, but really, the station entrance is just about on it. Walk down that street about 3 blocks to Tavistock. Turn right. There are signs pointing to The Generator (on your left, walk through a small alley.)

I don't know about Paris, I'll look it up...

Yeah.. I wouldn't recommend hanging out near the hostel at night. The banlieux (suburbs) are the rough parts of Paris, as opposed to the inner-city that we're all accustomed to... Although the St. Denis area isn't too bad from what I understand. Oh well, you'll probably be out partyingi n Pigalle during the wee hours anyway!

I guess that's what I get for goin for the cheapest place. The 3 ducks was all booked, so this place was only $20.03 per night for me and 2 of my friends. We know a couple people that are going to be in Paris and they told me it was gonna be a great place to stay. I guess we'll just hafta see. Thanks for your input guys and gals, it's appreciated greatly.

***UPDATE***

we cancelled that hostel today. I'm just gonna eat the $30 for right now, in hopes of our new one is a little better. It's a little more expensive but not too bad. We are staying at the Hotel de la Terrasse.

I think this one is up near Montmartre but it's definitely in the city this time. thanks for all your warnings and suggestions. Anybody stay at this one at all? lemme know.

I don't know that hotel in particular, but Montmartre is beautiful. As the main guy in L'Auberge Espagnole says, it's the part of Paris that no Parisians go to - meaning there are LOTS of touristy things to get sucked into, so after you get a quick round of the charming little streets and markets and Sacre Coeur, get thee to the Metro and explore, explore, explore. Paris isn't all that huge but there's so much to see. Speaking of which, Montmartre is very reachable by Metro, and is a short ride from Gare du Nord, so you're located in a MUCH better place for that alone - less time in transit, more time soaking it up!
