i think im going to be going to europe sept-october. i dont wanna go during summer as its a peak season, or winter as it might be too freezing in the northern places. i know that there'll still be lots of tourists around but are hostels etc generally very empty (or even closed :o ) around september/october??

so how's fall for travelling? what do u think is best time to travel? please post your experiences too!!!

Well I went to europe in March last year, and I'm moving there in September...
I think fall must be like March, not sure though... anyways, I got an advice for your packing, get the best jacket there is..... there are new lightweight, but very warm jackets, like made out of fleece.... in early March (it was about -3°c to 6°c), and I had the clever idea of taking a Down jacket... it was warm, but HUGE, the thing needs a seat in the airplane for itself, and it's very uncomfortable to carry your backpack, now I got a cute lightweight Pepe (lol believe it or not the material is awesome and very warm and fashionable :P)

Personally I my next trip will be a fall or winter trip...If I had not been so quickto jump the gun on this trip I would have changed my vaction time and booked for Oct - Dec sometime...just for a change of pace, and things are a hell of alot cheaper...and with out all the tourist around, you will prob get to meet more locals.

really....still a lot of people in mid Sep...i was hoping it was slowing down some...headed for Glasgow ,Amsterdam and Barcelona.....staying with friends and some budget hotels......can't wait leave on the 16th or 17th :P

Hey EuroJet, I hope you enjopy Glasgow, its and interesting city, I was just there..I stayed at the Euro Hostel...which I have yet to post my review of...Any way I have to encourage you to take the 1 hour train ride to Edinburgh, You will not regret it, I swear..I just was there and had just an amazing time Sights, sounds , people, history...Just a thought :D :D :lol: B)

Zorbey, don´t worry about hostels being closed. Only if you´re heading to the Greek Islands, should you worry about that. Everywhere else should be good to go.

Eurojet, you probably just left to Europe. Hope you have a great time and check in with us from time to time, if you can ;) and take CD´s advice. Can´t go to scotland and not visit Edinburgh :o !

Sept-Oct is maybe the BEST time to travel in Europe since all of the college student travelers are back in school or graduated and busy with applying for their career jobs. The weather is still decent and if you're into snow skiing you might even decide to postpone coming home if you're able to get some kind of job by applying early that would support a "LIVE TO SKI" lifestyle. Try Garmisch, Germany in the Bavarian Alps near the Austrian border; it's a great place to hang out and PARTY for a ski season. Or if you like more snow then Switzerland is the best place to look for part time work.
