Aside from scrapbooking and the hundreds upon hundreds of photos I shoot while travelling there is another little thing I like to do:
Take an empty altoids can and glue a picture of yourself before the trip to the inside of the lid. I like to decorate it with nailpolish or rhinestones and stuff like that too. Then when you find yourself someplace special, reach down and grab something like a blade of grass, a pebble, a feather, or a flower and put it inside the can. It doesn't necessarily matter to me if I don't remember where each single item came from. What I have when I get home is a little box of natural objects from around the world. I call it my "happy box"
.
the photograph is symbolic of the person you were (along with all the problems and dramas) before the trip. Then the objects become a symbol of your changes since then. The reason I do it is to keep my life in perspective.
