Never been backpacking before and hope to be going around western Europe sometime in 2005 ( when i'll be 18). I hopefully will be travelling through Belgium, Holland, Germany, France, Italy and Austria. I have a few questions for you guys;

What time of the year is best to travel? in terms of price, things to do, meeting other people.

Is it best to travel on my own, with a freind or as a group?

What Licenses/passes/legal documentation will i need?

How possible is it to get jobs while im travelling?

How much money should be set back per day to be on the safe side?

Cheers, Samo

I like Autumn in Europe...so, maybe plan on leaving in late August and the weather should hold out till early November. As for prices, check the link on the main page to find hostels in Europe. Write down the prices for the areas you're going to, toss in a hotel price every week or so (in cases when the hostel's full and you're just ready to get a room). Figure out how much you want to spend on food and drinks (if you party every night, it'll add up). Check out some train prices online, toss in some bus prices (all looked up online), and then add money for those incidentals. Oh, and don't forget admissions to musuem or historical sights you want to see!

You should start to come out with a decent ball park figure.

Just some tips for you....spring and fall are great time to travel...not so many tourists and the weather is gernerally nicer. It's also easier to find a bed! Work is usally easy to find , but its a matter of timing. Start looking just befor summer season or winter season. Good luck!
