Please help i need motivation.
I made the decision to go travel, I had half a larger(++) and was all brave. I always wanted to do it.... always said i would do it but now i am booked for a round the world trip. I am realy exited but scared.
I am a 23 year old 5ft nothing girl who has rarely been out of my home town. I am traveling on my own. My family and friends are my life. How do you guys cope with missing them when you are away?
I think i will be okay when i get going as i find it easy to get on with ppl but I have no idea how i will walk on to that first plane.

No one can write a book and tell you how old you need to be for travel, but 23 is a pretty dam good age to me. And as for your size, great things come in small packages! If you mentioned the size thing so as to feel less secure about yourself being alone in another country, bad experiences do not descriminate against tall people, if something is going to happen, chances are it would have happened regardless of your size, or age.

Where is "home town"? We all had to start somewhere, it just so happens that your starting your travel life with prob the best type trip one could have! A round da worlder!!! It will not be much different than sticking to one region, just learn about where your going, customs, languge ( enough to get you by) and geographic local of importent points.

Sometimes it is not easy, when I was single and a trav'la it was no drama for me to take off and go away, but now that I am married and taking treks on my own its a little harder...Initialy I am pretty good, but with in a few days I do start to miss my wife, put with the invention of Email and Pre-Paid long distence cards, communication has never been better!!! It will help you when you down to just pop into a net cafe, have abeer and send a whack of emails.

You will meet more people than you will be able to count, from all over the world, and the stories you will come back with will be told to your grandkids!

Scared, happy, excited, worried, concerned, curious....You will have goose bumps from the anticipation...This trip will change your life....I would bet my life on it!

Hey Wonderbird, congrats on the RTW trip! I left right after high school and was gone for more than six months, so I know how you might be feeling.

Think of it this way: Yes, you love your friends and family, but this trip will be a way to get to know them even better! "Hunh?" you say. Well, if they and you are like most people, there are a lot of things nice things you think about your friends or family, but don't say. Well, in letters (or e-mails), you are more likely to say them -- especially if you've been gone a long time.

I still have letters my Mom wrote me two decades ago while I was traveling. My buddies threw a party and made cassette tapes to send me. Both said nice things they wouldn't have said, if I hadn't been gone awhile on an indefinite length trip. And I'm sure I said things from the heart, too. I treasure those things...and I think it taught me lessons about love and friendship.

So, think of this time away from everyone as an opportunity to learn more about your relationship with them. You'll be surprised who turns out to be a regular write and confidant!

Good luck, Birdie, and I know you'll have an awesome time!
