Default iphone/ipod touch apps for backpackers.

I just got an ipod touch for graduation and I'm pretty stoked to take it on trips with me since I can use it to pick up wifi without carrying around a laptop. I dowloaded a couple of travel apps: one for booking hostels, google earth, and Hear Planet. I haven't had a chance to use them on the road yet, but they seem pretty neat.

Does anyone know of other quality (free or cheap) apps that are cool for travel?

Hmm, you could try an ATM locator app. My bank uses the Allpoint network and I found an app for that, although that's kind of US-centric. There might be something similar for ATMs around the world though.

kayak has an iphone app where you can search for flights on there like their website

also, google earth is good, ummm...there's an NYC subway map for free, there's currency converter, and translators

I got an iPod Touch a little while ago and since have downloaded many apps. Some of the most useful apps for backpackers that I have found would have to be:

iLove Travel – Packing: It's a packing list app that comes with many sample lists, the ability to declare value(useful for insurance) and check boxes so you can mark things off as you go. $1.99

Tripit App - works in conjunction with the website based itinerary manager to keep track of all of you travel documents, Hotel Confirmation, flight info, train info... $Free

okay so i thought I had some more cool ones but I guess I just have a ton of Games those are good for passing time on a long train rides though

Also the Metro/subway maps are great to have but can take away from the fun of getting off on the wrong stop and finding an undocumented jewel.

Have fun.
