ok, I plan on taking my well worn Nike Air Max with me to europe as my primary mode of transport. I do not plan on going out clubbing and I figure if I do, I can find a cheap pair of shoes over there.

My question is about sandals. Like a good pair of Tevas? I don't want to have to carry them around and likewise, I really don't want to have to carry around my nikes.

What are your thoughts on bringing 2 pairs of footwear? (I am bringing a 1.99 pair of shower sandals so I don't get the foot funk)

I think 2 pairs of shoes is a good idea. I'm bringing a pair of walking boots for my main means of transportation and a pair of low cut Adidas runners for chillin'.

I've made sure I have extra space for them and if I don't need the runners I'll just pawn them in. I got them pretty cheap so no big loss.

Sandals all depends on the weather. It sounds like your going in the end of April, so it still might be a bit cool for walking around in them.

Good call on the shower sandals tho! Make sure you bring those!

I like my trainers. So, I'm taking a pair of Roxy trainers, some Converse XHI boots (cos I love 'em), some flip flops, and a pair of black sandle type thingys. Do you think thats too much? I mean, it is for a year. And plus......I am a girl who loves her clothes.
Oooh, yeah, good idea on the shower flip flops!

i found i could get around in the flip flops alone. i pack a pair of shoes and Flip flops. i'm not a sandle fan, i hate the velcro straps.

sandals are a good idea if you're traveling in the summer. and tennies are always a must - so is dr. scholl's foot spray!!

i've learned to just take what you are comfortable in. i wear my slippers (thongs) every where so i get around just fine in them while traveling.

Beady- you could cut back just a little by taking black flip flops... I know plenty of people who use those as summer dressier shoes, and it would save room in your pack.

I've wondered about the shoe question a little too. At first I was going to get hiking boots, because I want to do a little actual hiking in places like Switzerland. I've kind of decided against doing that now because I doubt I will need them very much and I don't want to have to break them in before I go. Plus hiking boots can get hot and uncomfortable. I'm probably just bringing these:

flip flops aren't the best for walking distances in, but whatever. If I need strap sandals I guess I can buy them over there.

Im taking a pair of beach sandles (comfy enough for everyday walking) and a pair of walking shoes strong enough to take a beating, but will pass to get me into a pub, or a nice resturant for dinner once in a while...

Lets see how i go posting an example...

I hope that works...

it depends on when you're going. unless you plan to be there smacking in the middle of summer, i think that your nikes will do! the less the better when backpacking!
