I just called my bank today to let them know I will be going overseas in a few days and they give me the great news that every ATM withdraw has a 1% fee on it and get this, every purchase has a 2% fee on it! I could not believe it. As if this trip wasnt expensive enough, 2% to use my own money. Oh well, just had to vent a little. Leaving in 2 days for first trip!

Too late for you, hoohay, but there are a couple credit cards out there that don't charge the additional transaction "currency conversion" fee on purchases. My mastercard is with MBNA bank, and they are one that doesn't. Now, for cash advances, I believe it is a different story.

All ATMs will charge you a fee for making a withdrawal using the Cirrus or Plus network. I've never had a percentage fee charged, though...

at least u didn't have 4% currency conversion. that really bites
